Banqueting House

Exterior of Banqueting House
Nathan and I were tourists in our own city yesterday as we visited Banqueting House (BH). BH was completed in 1622 and is important in the history of English architecture as it is the first building to be completed in the neo-classical style which was to transform English architecture.  We spent an hour in the Banqueting Hall before continuing our touristy day.

From Whitehall where BH is located we walked to Trafalgar Square where we went to the National Portrait Gallery so we could see the portrait of Kate Middleton.  We also saw a picture of William and Harry in millitary uniform.  Nathan would like to go back to the gallery as there were loads of portraits of previous Kings and Queens and it would be nice to spend time looking at them.

We then had a pint at a gay bar while watching Ireland lose to Italy.  After we walked to Covent Garden to meet Anna & Boz and had drinks in the Nags Head while watching Wales beat England for the 6 nations title. We explored Soho at night and found a nice Indian restaurant for dinner.  We walked through Leicester Square on our way home to the tube. A great day of being tourists. It was so nice to be walking around central London, we must do it more often.
