Today we explored Quito. Took a gondola ride (teleferico) to 4100m to look out over the city. Unfortunately the weather is poor and visibility was limited. Definately noticing the O2 deficit at altitude! Even walking up stair cases is difficult, lots of puffing (Not just us thankfully!).
Saw many sites in the old town including la basilica, plaza grande and el panecilio. Lots to see, many side streets, road stalls, crazy driving. Roads are brick cobble stones, no tar seal.
Picking up a few words of spanish.
1s and 2s paper must not be flushed, has to be put in a bin beside the toilet. very weird. sewer system not designed to handle paper.
Tomorrow we are heading to the Amazon, cant wait. May not be able to update for a few days at least. Currently we have free net access in our hostel.
Taxi drivers are crazy. Swerve all over the place, very impatient!
